Earlier this year, Ranveer Singh made headlines with the announcement of him starring in the Hindi remake of the 2009 Telugu hit, Magadheera. But a few months later, the film seems to have run into rough weather. According to the Band Baaja Baraat (2010) actor, the film “is not happening now” (with him).
“To start with, Lootera is coming up (for release). And now, I have started shooting for Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Ram Leela that will be followed by Gunday. As for the Magadheera remake, it’s not happening now. I can only talk about films that I am working on,” says the actor, who is currently working with Deepika Padukone on Ram Leela.
Although the real reason behind Ranveer not doing Magadheera isn’t clear, the makers claim the film itself is very much on. The historical-drama-love story is supposed to be produced by Phantom (a company helmed by Anurag Kashyap, Vikas Bahl, Madhu Mantena and Vikramaditya Motwane).
“We are busy with four films (Lootera, Ugly, Queen and another film). So the Magadheera remake — which is very much on — will be taken up later,” says Mantena. And will Ranveer star in the film? “Please wait for the announcement, which should be made within the next 15 days,” he says. Interestingly, Ranbir Kapoor’s name had also done the rounds for the same role, initially.
Magadheera has been dubbed and released in Malayalam as Dheera — The Warrior and in Tamil as Maveeran. The lead actress and the director, besides the male lead, are yet to be finalised. The Hindi version is reportedly being made with a budget of Rs. 50 crore.
Ranveer, on his part, is busy with Ram Leela, following which he will start Ali Abbas Zafar’s Gunday, which is set in yesteryear Kolkata. The film will see him teaming up with Arjun Kapoor. The leading lady for the Yash Raj Films production is yet to be finalised.

Wedding preparations have begun in full swing for Saif Ali Khan's impending marriage with Kareena Kapoor. Sharmila Tagore, who had announced the wedding date as October 16, has started sending out the invites.
Sharmila Tagore had disclosed to Mid Day last month that the wedding will be attended by close family members only and the ceremonies will be held in Delhi and Mumbai. Rumours about Copacabana or Maldives being the wedding venue were put to rest.
Kareena will be wearing Sharmila's bridal Sharara on her wedding day and is expected to wear Manish Malhotra's creations for other ceremonies. "We are yet discussing what functions she's going to have. Just the other day I was at her house and I was discussing with her. So it's on the way," the designer had said during Delhi Couture Week last month.
Saif and Kareena have been dating for five years now. The couple had officially declared that they will tie the knot in the beginning of 2012 after the release of their film Agent Vinod but that was postponed.
The 41-year-old actor has two children, son Ibrahim and daughter Sara, from his previous marriage to actress Amrita Singh. The actress, too, dated Shahid Kapoor for three years before committing to the Nawab of Pataudi.

During the screening of her film Heroine, actor Kareena Kapoor will warn viewers about the dangers of smoking, through a voiceover, says director Madhur Bhandarkar.
The decision has followed the government’s new diktat, which allows filmmakers to show smoking scenes in movies, albeit with an actor warning the audience that smoking kills. A 20-second anti-smoking promo will be screened thrice during the film’s showcase. “In the beginning and end, Kareena will address the warning, and also for the interval part as well. We are implementing it,” said Bhandarkar.
Kareena feels that the voiceover is a relief from the earlier rule, which asked filmmakers to run a scroll below the smoking scene. Many filmmakers had expressed it could be a distractive practice.
“I’m happy we don’t have to write the scroll down. That’s one thing we were worried about. I have recorded the voice for the beginning of the film, for the interval and end of the film,” said the actor, who brings alive the behind-the-scenes life of an actor for the audience, through the drama.

Salman Khan has always been a trendsetter. Whether it’s his long hair from Tere Naam (2003), Being Human tees and more recently, or the chequered scarf from Ek Tha Tiger, everything has been copied by his fans. For his next TV outing with reality show Bigg Boss season 6, he will be seen sporting a French beard and a new wardrobe and has even shot the promos in this avatar.
Salman’s sister Alvira Agnihotri and designer Ashley Rebello have ensured that the star looks hot on the small screen. Rebello spills the beans on Sallu’s latest style, saying, "Salman Khan's look is more formal as compared to the previous seasons. He will sport a more structured look with a mix of two-button suits, jackets in colours such as lemonade yellow, mustard and salmon pink, and a lot of black shirts with trendy ties. Also, he will be seen flaunting a brand new element, which will create a rage.” But the designer stays mum on it claiming that it’s a surprise, which will be revealed later.
His fans have mixed reactions about his new look. Neela Mehta, a 35-year-old architect, says, “Salman's new look reminds me of Amitabh's from KBC."
Alisha Rodriguez, 25, writer, echoes her saying, “The French beard is weird and makes him look old.”
However, Sapna Ganjawala, 16, student feels that he looks really smart with the French beard and can carry off any look.
Another positive response comes from designer Sanjiv Mimani, 45. “The look is different and a good attempt. It might take a while to get used to it, as he’s always been fuzz free,” he says.
Hair it comes
Aman Verma: “The new look looks promising as he has always been cleanshaven. It’s a different appereance.”
Tina Datta: “Salman has an ingrained sense of style. Formal suits paired with sunglasses will make him look every bit the Bigg Boss man!”
Nandish Sandhu: “I met him while he was shooting the promos and right then I’d said that he’s looking cool.”
Mahek Chahel: “India’s hottest man Mr Salman Khan looks cool. He will rock BB 6 again.”

Rajini makes it a point to appreciate good movies irrespective of language or star cast. Many movies have earned the stamp of approval from the Superstar himself.
Recently, he was floored by Eega and now it is the turn of another Telugu hit to bowl over the Endhiran star.
Sudigadu, the Telugu adaptation of Thamizh Padam, has won universal acclaim thanks to the roaring spoof comedy much like the original.
Superstar evinced an interest to see the film and a special screening was done for him at his residence and he enjoyed Allari Naresh s antics to the core. He appreciated the director as well.
The Sudigadu team must be on cloud nine for sure.

Movie: Raaz 3
Director:Vikram Bhatt
Cast: Bipasha Basu, Emraan Hashmi, Esha Gupta
Erotica, human drama, gorgeous ladies, and Emraan Hashmi—Raaz 3 has all the elements that go in the making of an archetypal Vikram Bhatt horror film.
A superstar with her career on a downward spiral, Shanaya (Bipasha Basu) cannot stand the success of new star-on-the-block Sanjana (Esha Gupta). Insecure and weighed down by a childhood grudge (the two actresses are step-sisters), Shanaya is unable to bear history repeating itself.
In Shanaya’s mentally unstable mind, Sanjana is the cause of her lost childhood, and is now threatening her career. She meets Tara Dutt (Manish Chaudhary) who calls himself a spirit “na is paar, na uss paar”. A black magic expert, he tells Shanaya that her problems can be solved.
Shanaya ropes in unwilling boyfriend Aditya (Emraan Hashmi) to help her. Together, they play this deadly game against the unsuspecting Sanjana.
The film delves into the insecurities that come along with a showbiz career. However, it’s a highly dramatized, even if entertaining, portrayal.
The horror element is present, but is not overboard. More thrills than chills, it’ll have you genuinely scared only in a couple of scenes. The other scenes are the kind that’ll have you let out nervous laughter. There is the usual paraphernalia of candles, flowing curtains, echoing laughter, talks of spirits, strong religious overtones, and a tantrik.
The use of dark imagery and symbolism is very interesting. For example, you have the evil spirit in human form nestled in murky water full of trash. Again, the visualization of the good spirit imprisoned in a water-filled room (signifying the source of the magic) is superb.
The 3D quality is excellent and the use is surprisingly subtle. The scene where a character has to deal with creepy-crawlies is the film’s highlight.
The characters in typical Bhatt style are contemporary but perplexingly speak in an archaic tone. So you have these young characters use words like talluk, veham and haqueekat. Again in portions that require an extreme response, all Emraan’s character can come up with is, “this is really stupid.” These scenes are unintentionally hilarious.
Bipasha Basu excels as the unstable Shanaya. Despite the character being downright evil, she manages to bring a hint of vulnerability to the performance. Interestingly, she thinks of herself as the victim and in her own head has justified her deeds believing that “she has no choice”. Esha Gupta is awkward as the film starts but manages a fairly impressive performance. Emraan Hashmi gives a weak performance and gamely lets the ladies take center-stage.
Director Vikram Bhatt (1920, Haunted-3D) makes a horror film that’s unapologetically formulaic, but adds in newer elements like the grey characters, unusual imagery, and understated 3D usage.
Worth a watch for the thrills and chills and bravura performances by the ladies!

Movie: Joker
Director: Shirish Kunder
Producer: Ronnie Screwvala, Farah Khan
Music: Akshay Kumar, Sonakshi Sinha, Minisha Lamba, Shreyas Talpade
Cast: G. V. Prakash Kumar, Gaurav Dagaonkar
Here's a film that had great potential for an equal measure of comedy and drama. What could have been a delightful, fantastical fable turns out to be a damp squib full of flat jokes.
Circa 1947: When the maps of India and Pakistan were being drawn, an oversight ensured that the village of Paglapur didn't find a place in either country.
The village had the distinction of housing the largest mental asylum in the region and in the melee that ensued during Partition, the asylum inmates broke loose, drove away the villagers and established their own republic in Paglapur.
And that's how it stayed for the next 60 years! While the world outside changed, Paglapur remained isolated.
Tides turn when, when Agastya (Akshay Kumar) and wife (Sonakshi Sinha) arrive in the village. Agastya is working on a top secret project for creating a device to communicate with aliens.
When he tries to better the life of the villagers and solve the water crisis, he is shunted from one government office to the other. Agastya begins to think of ways to put his village back on the map, even if it means involving aliens.
The humour is poor. Why would you laugh at a man who speaks gibberish, another who thinks he is a lamp post and everyone else who think Mahatma Gandhi is still around, fighting for independence? Apart from being impolite and objectionable, these gags are simply not funny!
Then there are other jokes like Akshay's character calling UFOs an "udta, phirta omelette" or the sentence "Humaara mazaak mat udaao" is translated literally as 'don't fly our jokes'.
While one admires that Kunder has kept the comedy clean and devoid of vulgarity, it does not excuse the comedy turning bland.
Writer-editor–director Shirish Kunder (Jaan-E-Mann) makes a film that probably sounded better on paper. The film, touted as India's first extra terrestrial comedy, falls flat and doesn't deliver its promise.
If you're planning to take the kids for the novelty of seeing an alien movie, please keep in mind that the aliens aren't as interesting as they should have been.
The portion where an alien shakes a leg to songs could have been so adorable, but here it's just garish.
What works for the film is the lead pair. Akshay Kumar and Sonakshi Sinha are great sports and play along with the bizarre script. Their chemistry is the highlight of the film.
Akshay does well, but dialogue-based comedy is not his forte.
Sonakshi looks ravishing and has the familiar likeable screen presence that the audience loved in Dabangg.
Another thing that elevates the film are the lavishly choreographed songs, especially the I Want Fakht You song picturised on Chitrangada Singh.
An extra-terrestrial film sounded interesting. One wishes the film was as fun as the core idea!

Movie: Ek Tha Tiger
Director: Kabir Khan
Cast: Salman Khan, Katrina Kaif, Ranvir Shorey
For an action film, Ek Tha Tiger is surprising subtle; unexpectedly sweet. The romance is old-worldly with the hero-heroine exchanging timid, hesitant hugs instead of passionate kisses. Their conversations hold weight, and we cannot help but take their romance seriously.
‘Out of more than 200 countries in the world, why did you fall in love with a Pakistani,’ thunders Shenoy (Girish Karnad) to his protégé RAW agent Tiger (Salman Khan). You see, this workaholic of an agent has done the unthinkable—asked for a desk job after doing field work continuously for 12 years. This had something to do with the last mission he went to. The Tiger got tamed and fell in love with a Pakistani girl.
Flashback to the last mission: In order to get close to his subject—a whimsical university professor in London, Tiger befriends his home caretaker and dance student Zoya (Katrina Kaif).
Finding him a bit square, Zoya calls him a “kaddu”, and asks him to “get a little cooler” for a night-out with friends. He complies, ditching the coat for a jacket, and she appreciates the gesture. As their endearing friendship develops into a romance, we see the sights-and-sounds of London—its wonderful street culture and eccentricities.
The humour is understated, most evident when Salman’s character takes a self-deprecating dig at the name Tiger. And the scene involving a chase and a complicated door knob.
The film is a treat for fans of the stars. Salman Khan oozes charm and that inexplicable star quality throughout. Perhaps it has to do with a certain vulnerability and humour he brings in, even for regular, dry action scenes. The styling works and this is the best he has looked in a long time. Katrina has an interesting, meaty role as well, and the actress impresses with her earnest performance. She excels in the challenging action scenes, and is evocative in the emotional ones. Plus she’s looking like a zillion bucks throughout.
The film is technically proficient. The moody cinematography and dexterous editing are commendable. The songs are pretty good as well.
Director Kabir Khan, deviates from the trend of making content-heavy films to come up with one that’s light and airy. The film’s simplicity (the story can be capsuled in a single sentence), is refreshing and that is its biggest strength. It is to the credit of the makers, that they’ve kept the lines clean, and not gotten into self-indulgent sub-plots and a plethora of extraneous characters. Neither does it fall into the item-number trap that many commercial “family films” fall into.
Kabir Khan’s storytelling is sure-footed and he manages to tell the story intelligently without compromising on the film’s entertainment value. While many have pre-booked their tickets for the film, there are still a sizeable number of fence-sitters who are in no mood to revisit a Wanted or Bodyguard—a brand of films that has become synonymous with Salman.
Rest assured, this is the kind of film that doesn’t get into the high or low-brow argument. It’s a simple story, told with conviction and with enough star-value and action to keep everyone happy. Go for it!

‘PS I Love You’ star Gerard Butler`s upcoming action drama ‘Motor City’ has been put on the shelves until the film`s backers could settle the schedule.
Directed by Albert Hughes and starring Butler, Mickey Rourke and Adrien Brody, "Motor City" will not start production on September 17 as it was reported earlier, reported Ace Showbiz.
However, the picture is not canceled entirely.
"Faced with the realities of a very short post-production schedule and complicated visual and special effects, the producers have decided to push back production on Albert Hughes` Motor City," a spokesperson for the producers and financiers said.
"We are dedicated to delivering top-tier productions such as 2 Guns starring Denzel Washington and Mark Wahlberg which is currently in production and Peter Berg`s Lone Survivor which is in pre-production.
The circumstances surrounding this project made it impossible to meet the firm March 31st delivery date without compromising the quality of the film," he added.

Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences is celebrating the 30th anniversary of Steven Spielberg`s science-fiction masterpiece "ET: The Extra-Terrestrial" with a special screening.
The Science and Technology Council of the Academy has teamed up with the Palo Alto International Film Festival (PAIFF) to present a screening of the 1992 release on September 28 at the Outdoor Festival Village Stage in Palo Alto, a release said.
Termed as Spielberg`s "most personal film" and considered by many to be a benchmark in the science fiction genre, "E.T." continues to delight audiences with its emotional story of the intense relationship between the young Elliott (Henry Thomas) and the lovable alien who is trying to return to his home planet.
The film also stars Dee Wallace, Robert MacNaughton, Drew Barrymore, and Peter Coyote in prominent roles. The blockbuster was nominated for nine Academy Awards and won four.
It may be one of Spielberg`s most celebrated works but the director faced allegations that the film was inspired from a 1967 script `The Alien` by Indian director Satyajit Ray, which he could not make.

Recently, Priety Zinta was caught on camera by the increasingly growing and obsessive papparazzi.
The actress did not show her face to the camera and it was attributed to her look sans makeup.
An otherwise camera-friendly Preity Zinta made sure that photographers didn’t get her at the Mumbai airport on Sunday.
The cameras were stationed outside the airport because the buzz was that Ashton Kutcher would be seen, but the cameramen spotted an unsuspecting Priety Zinta in a loose tee and pyjamas and ran after her.
Priety is supposed to have hid her face with whatever she could, her hands, her face, her staff.
Clearly, her not-so-warm reception has not gone down well the Indian papparazzi.
So today, in a storm of aggressive tweets, the usually straightforward actress lashed out at the photographers and everybody who has criricised her for the incident.
In her first two tweets, @realprietyzinta says, "Sitting at home with a twisted ankle post the airport assault by photographers. First I shoot all night & get on the plane n then get pushed " and "Pushed n jumped on at the airport. It was raining so I slipped. Wasn't hiding my face was trying 2 recover frmthe shock of 40 camera flashes."
Next she tweets, "If photographers ask me politely I will oblige buy next time I will either attack some1 or then file a police complaint cuz THIS IS NOT FAIR."
Priety Zinta is known to be camera-friendly and this kind of behaviour seems unlikely from her. Maybe next time she will take some serious action if something similar were to recur.
With palpable rage, she then tweeted, "I am a human being not some animal in the ZOO ! If my security would have pushed them then news would report my staff assaulted the media!"
The generally chirpy actress tweeted, "And yes in the end I was pissed off so then I definitely didn't want 2 show my face. Last time my car was scratched n the side mirror broke"
She concluded with, " Telling u all this cuz all of u asking why I was hiding my face. Every story has 2 sides so here is my side of the story ... Grrrrrrrrr!" and "Thank god shooting for Ishkq in Paris is over otherwise I'd be hopping around with a twisted ankle. Now in meetings all day..(sic)."
Preity Zinta's tweet
Priety Zinta is coming back on the big screen after a hiatus with her home production Ishkq in Paris, co-starring Rhehan Malliek and Isabella Adjani, with Shekhar Kapoor and Salman Khan in cameos.
Priety Zinta is known to speak her mind and is rather appreciated in Bollywood for that. Let us see how many celebs support her on this one.

All is well between Big B and Madhur Bhandarkar It’s said that there are no permanent friends or enemies in Bollywood. This adage has proved true once again. Amitabh Bachchan seems to have made peace with Madhur Bhandarkar, after last year’s controversy surrounding the film, Heroine. It was first announced with Aishwarya Rai Bachchan in the lead.
But after the news of her pregnancy, she was replaced by Kareena Kapoor. The change in casting made the Bachchans unhappy. But now, all seems to be well. Big B has wished Kareena a happy birthday in an episode of Kaun Banega Crorepati (to be aired on September 21) and even wished her luck with Heroine.
Shooting for the new season of Kaun Banega Crorepati (KBC) has already started. And it seems that one of the first things Amitabh Bachchan has done is mend some apparently burnt bridges with director Madhur Bhandarkar and the team of his next film, Heroine.
While shooting for an episode, contestant Sameer Kumar told Bachchan that he was a huge fan of Kareena Kapoor.
A source tells us, “Sameer mentioned he wanted to wish the actor on her birthday. As this particular episode is scheduled to air on Kareena’s birthday, Bachchan called up Kareena to make Sameer’s wish come true. Bachchan himself wished Kareena and gave his blessings for Heroine. The chat between the two stars lasted a few minutes, with everyone on the set listening.”
It seems that Kareena herself was initially supposed to go on KBC as a guest, but that didn’t work out due to her hectic schedules.“So when this opportunity to interact with a contestant on the show came her way, Kareena agreed to interact with her fan and with Big B.”
This is the first time that Amitabh or anyone from the Bachchan family has shown support towards Heroine after Aishwarya Rai Bachchan was replaced by Kareena in the film’s lead role. It hints at a reconciliation between the Bachchans and Madhur and Kareena. In fact, Madhur met Bachchan recently on the sets of an ad film, and they had a long chat. “Everything is fine between them now as the makers of Heroine prepare to release their film on September 21,” says the source.

He already has the image of the serial kisser but this time Emraan Hashmi seems to have surpassed even himself! In his upcoming film Raaz 3, the actor has indulged in a 20-minute long lip lock with co-star Esha Gupta, not to mention the multiple kisses with his other co-star Bipasha Basu.
In the past, too, the actor has shared several long kisses with his co-stars in films like Murder, Tum Mile, Jannat 2 and many more but this is probably his longest on-screen smooch. Not that uncle Mahesh Bhatt minds. “Emraan’s kissing scene is the icing on the cake that we offer in the film to all his fans. I would call this a marathon kiss,” Mid-Day reported.
Known as Bollywood's serial kisser, Emraan Hashmi may have decided to do a family film but feels it would be foolish of him to alienate himself from the kind of cinema he is known for doing.
Emraan-Esha's kiss in Raaz 3
When asked about revisiting his image, he said: "We have upped the stakes. There is normally one heroine, but here there are two. The sinful experiences on screen have increased," the 33-year-old said here in an interview.
"I have a core constituency, an audience who want me to do such films. Every actor has an image and you would be a fool to let go of that. Yes, you can occasionally do other films but if you let go of your core strength then the relatability drops.
"Within that realm you should try other genres. Like I do Raaz, I also did 'Shanghai' and it received critical acclaim. Of course, this is my core strength and I want to do such films and Raaz 3 is a film which brings all those strengths together," he added.

The shape which Aishwarya Rai is in five months after her pregnancy has generated unusual public interest with the Bachchan bahu coming in for some criticism for the "oodles of weight" gained by the actress. But some celebrites who have been associated with the 38-year-old Bollywood star including Designer Sabyasachi defended her, saying that like any other woman the new mother would definitely take some time to shed pregnancy weight.
The trigger for the reactions came following the publication of some pictures of the former Miss World while emerging out of a party hosted by eminent industrialist Mukesh Ambani in Mumbai last week. Married to Abhishek Bachchan, Aishwarya gave birth to her first baby, a daughter, on November 16, 2011.
The pictures set off a buzz on the internet and in the social media with articles, videos, blogs and tweets highlighting her "oodles of weight", "double chin" and calling the photos of the beauty queen "shocking".
Some social media writeups sought to suggest that the star is not taking her weight gain seriously. However, some blogs and tweets too have come out in Aishwarya's defence with comments that the focus on her post-pregnancy weight gain was pathetic.
A video compilation of her recent photos attracted comments like: "She is a Bollywood actress and being a part of showbiz it is her duty to look good and fit. Till now she has been praised for her beauty, so it is only fair that she should also be criticized if she is not able to live up to it.
She needs to learn from people like Victoria Beckham who are back to size zero weeks after their delivery! She needs to lose that weight... its been close to 5 months already!"
On the other hand, there are many who believe that five months is not enough time to shed weight and that the comments on her figure are "harsh".
Designer Sabyasachi, who made Aishwarya's costumes for Raavan, said, "Aishwarya Rai Bachchan has just delivered a baby and like any other woman she would definitely take time to put off that weight."
"She's a super celebrity and I think she is doing a commendable job by showing her real side to the media. Earlier, she was criticised for being unreal and plastic," Sabyasachi told PTI.
Aishwarya looked a lot slimmer at the press conference conducted by the Bachchans at their residence, Jalsa, immediately after the baby's arrival. But in recent photographs, Bollywood watchers say it seems as if she is heavier by five to six kilos.
Designer Rina Dhaka says that a new mother gains weight especially when she is taking care of her baby.
"It is very difficult for a woman to shed that weight. I think the media is being very harsh on her. They are deliberately printing those photos which are taken at an angle which makes her look fat or highlights her double chin," Rina said.
Designer Rocky S lashed out at the critics. "Why people are obsessed with Aishwarya's weight. This maternity weight takes time to lose. Being an internatianol celebrity she is not hiding her face, rather she is enjoying her motherhood. She should not be pressurised and she doesn't have to look perfect at this moment."
Even blogs and tweets have come out in Aishwarya's defence.
"Focus on Aishwarya's post preg weight gain pathetic. Glad she's not a celeb bimbo who's wheeled in2 plastic surgery straight frm labour room," said one Twitter user, while another wrote, "Reports in some parts of the media about Aishwarya's weight gain are vile and irresponsible. Let the woman be."
"Utterly gross & sexist commentary in sections of the media on Aishwarya Rai Bachchan. Makes me sick with anger at how we deconstruct women," said another tweet.
